- September 28, 2026: OpenAI said it would not release GPT-6.1 Astra after it performed poorly on alignment tests, according to The Wall Street Journal and The Verge.
- September 29, 2026: OpenAI launched GPT-6.1 Sol instead.
- October 31, 2026: reports say OpenAI is hinting at the next Astra-class model. That is a hint, not a release announcement.
