Short answer
To call GPT Image models on OpenAI's own platform, OpenAI's image generation guide says you may need to complete API Organization Verification first. Its identity check asks for an original, physical government ID from a supported country and sometimes a selfie, and one person can verify only one organization (OpenAI Help Center). You also need an OpenAI account in a supported country and a card for billing.
If any of that is a blocker, there's a second access path: TeamoRouter supports GPT Image 2.6. You sign up with TeamoRouter, top up from $5 and call gpt-image-2.6-flare or gpt-image-2.6-sunburst with a TeamoRouter key. You don't have an OpenAI account in this path, so there's no OpenAI organization to verify.
New accounts start with a $0 balance — top up before your first request. Top up from $5. If a request returns 402 (400 on the OpenAI format) with "wallet balance is insufficient", your balance is empty — your base URL and key are fine. Top up and retry.
Get an API key for GPT Image 2.6 — sign up, top up from $5 by card or USDT, and make your first request in a few minutes.
What OpenAI asks for
| Step on OpenAI's platform | What it involves |
|---|---|
| Account and organization | An OpenAI API account; models are enabled per organization |
| Country | You need to be in one of OpenAI's supported countries and territories |
| Organization Verification (may be required for GPT Image models) | Business verification — legal name, registered address, tax or registration number, documents — and/or identity verification: an original, physical government ID from a supported country, plus a selfie if requested |
| Billing | Prepaid credits paid by card; no crypto option |
A few details from OpenAI's help article worth knowing before you start: scans, screenshots and digital IDs aren't accepted; one person can verify only one account or organization, and repeated attempts may block access; a declined result can't be manually overridden. If you aren't approved, you keep the access you already had — which may not include GPT Image models.
When the gateway route makes sense
- Your organization isn't verified, verification was declined, or you can't provide an accepted ID.
- You're outside OpenAI's supported countries.
- You don't have a card OpenAI accepts, or prefer to pay with crypto.
- You want one key and one balance for GPT Image, GPT, Claude, Gemini and DeepSeek.
This isn't a workaround for your own OpenAI organization's checks — it's a different provider. You're a TeamoRouter customer calling TeamoRouter's API, which serves the GPT Image 2.6 models.
Call GPT Image 2.6 in three steps
- Create a key. Sign up in the TeamoRouter console and create an API key. It's shown once, so save it.
- Top up. From $5, by card or with USDT, USDC or ETH from any exchange app or wallet (how to pay with USDT). No subscription; you pay for what you use.
- Send a request. The API uses the OpenAI Images API format, so you change only the base URL:
curl https://api.teamorouter.com/v1/images/generations \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $TEAMO_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"model": "gpt-image-2.6-flare",
"prompt": "A watercolor map of a small island village, soft morning light",
"size": "1024x1024",
"quality": "low"
}' | jq -r '.data[0].b64_json' | base64 --decode > island.png
Or with the OpenAI Python SDK:
import base64
from openai import OpenAI
client = OpenAI(base_url="https://api.teamorouter.com/v1", api_key="sk-teamo-...")
result = client.images.generate(
model="gpt-image-2.6-sunburst",
prompt="A watercolor map of a small island village, soft morning light",
size="1536x1024",
quality="medium",
)
open("island.png", "wb").write(base64.b64decode(result.data[0].b64_json))
Edits go to /v1/images/edits in the same format. The 2.6 features — complexity, GIF and SVG output, markup-guided edits — are covered in GPT Image 2.6 API: what's new.
Errors you might see
| Error | What it means | Fix |
|---|---|---|
Missing auth credential |
The request reached TeamoRouter without a key | Check the Authorization: Bearer header and that TEAMO_API_KEY is set |
The provided bearer token could not be validated… |
The key is wrong or deleted | Copy the key again, or create a new one in the console |
| 402, or 400 on the OpenAI format, with "wallet balance is insufficient" | Your balance is empty | Top up and retry |
| Model not found | A typo in the model ID | Use gpt-image-2.6-flare or gpt-image-2.6-sunburst, with dots |
FAQ
Do I need OpenAI Organization Verification to use GPT Image 2.6 through TeamoRouter?
No. You don't have an OpenAI account or organization in this path; you sign up with TeamoRouter and use its key.
Is it the same model as on OpenAI's API?
Yes: you call the same model IDs, gpt-image-2.6-flare and gpt-image-2.6-sunburst, in the same Images API format.
How much does it cost?
OpenAI's list price is the same for both models: $5 per million text input tokens, $8 per million image input tokens and $30 per million image output tokens (pricing). TeamoRouter's prices are on the pricing page.
Can I pay without a credit card?
Card is the default, and you can also top up with USDT, USDC or ETH. There's no subscription; the minimum top-up is $5.
